Your Checklist for designing a successful website – Sample blog

When you take the critical step of introducing your company to the online world, you want to make a statement — and in a good way – to potential customers. Create a design that is both visually appealing and functional in order to accomplish your goal successfully.

The process of creating a website is not easy. You should be prepared to spend an extremely long time inventing, constructing, and precisely adjusting every single element, doing it all over again and again for an indefinite period of time.

Fortunately, we live in a wonderful time in which access to a wide range of knowledge is as accessible as it has ever been. You can learn nearly any skill without ever leaving your house, and you don’t even have to spend any money. Everything is feasible if you have access to the tools and professional recommendations available on the internet. A website is no exception: despite the fact that it is time-consuming, it is a completely enjoyable procedure.

We’ll tell you what you need to know before you plunge into the depths of fear and lack of self-confidence: you can do it. Do not be offended if we use cliches; if you follow the steps outlined in this checklist, you will be astonished at how much less complicated it turns out to be.

Please, let me say a few words before we begin.

Attention all perfectionists: pay attention! It is not necessary for your website to be of the most up-to-date design from the beginning. Start with something simple and beautiful, and you’ll be able to transform it into a masterpiece that will rival anything in the world later on. You make a public appearance – make a good first impression. You’re a newcomer to the public eye. Inform them of the services you provide and how outstanding your customer service is. And, to continue along this line of thought, Remember to be memorable for a purpose – visual recognition will follow as a result of your efforts. All of the tricks in the world will not be able to compensate for a negative reputation. The quality of your service will serve as your most effective advertisement.

What exactly is it?

First and first, we must all agree on the concepts that will be discussed in this piece.

Design is a broad phrase that encompasses many different disciplines. For the sake of this article, we will utilise it to visually explain a strategy; to create an excessively detailed drawing, to put it another way. Designing the appearance of a website is the process of designing the look of a website. It entails more than just what you see and has an impact on user experience (UX). User experience, also known as user interface, is the sensation that visitors have while visiting a website. Everything from how convenient all of the functions are to whether or not it is easy to get the information they require falls into this category. When you hear the term “web design,” the first thing that comes to mind is the user interface (UI), which is frequently used in conjunction with the previous term. The visual component of a website is known as the user interface.

  1. Have A Plan

It is essential necessary to go through this step, no matter how eager you are to get to the action-packed section of the process. Making a well-thought-out plan for what to do is a necessary first step in any subsequent endeavour.

During the course of establishing your business idea, you may have completed part of the necessary work. If you haven’t done so before, now is a good moment.

Define your Goals

The website you’re building will serve as your primary means of communicating your concept. A shoe store on the internet and a blog written by a rising star in the world of journalism are two completely different stories.

Consider what you intend to do in terms of your business. The type of website you should have is determined by the breadth of your operations.

There are seven major categories of websites, each of which is classified according to its function.

  • Portfolio
  • Business
  • Landing
  • Ecommerce
  • Blog
  • Entertainment

Social networking is becoming increasingly popular.

The distinctions between categories are, to be fair, somewhat ambiguous. Depending on what you’re planning, you can choose one of those options or come up with something entirely new. This is not the only classification available; there are many different sorts of websites to consider. This is a condensed list to assist you in locating your general location.

Answer the following questions to determine which type would be the most appropriate:

What is it that I hope to accomplish?

What will I be able to provide to others?

It can be difficult to pinpoint the exact type of website you want. With the most popular types of websites, you may make use of this fantastic chart:

Target audience

As you can see, this is intimately tied to the goal of your website. In a way, your audience is the reason you are on the internet in the first place. In order to create an impressive design, you must first determine who you are trying to impress with it.

Identify your potential visitors’ most characteristic traits. Figure out:

  • demographics
  • Problem
  • Where they hang out online for work and play

Once you’ve determined what you want for yourself, consider what you can offer them in return. It is more successful to appeal to feelings and emotions rather than rational reasoning when trying to persuade someone. According to the adage, features tell, but benefits sell. But don’t get me wrong: you must have a logical foundation for your product or service, and you must communicate this to your customers. It’s simply that it’s not the first thing that people notice, even if they are doing so subconsciously.
When interacting with someone, it is critical to keep in mind with whom you are communicating. Everything on your website should be designed to cater to their possible interests and requirements. You will benefit from analysing your target audience long after you have created your first website. Keeping up with the changing characteristics of your target audience can help you to increase your income. L’Oreal Canada nearly doubled their predicted revenue by focusing on the right customers. The following is the cycle of measures that they recommend:

Make a list of objectives.
It’s likely that your website is assisting you in some way. What is it that you intend to use it for?

Despite the fact that they appear to be similar, these two concepts are not to be mistaken. Your aims represent your intended outcome, whereas the purpose implies that you are doing it for their benefit. This is a small but crucial difference. Make certain that you understand where you’re headed.

Are you attempting to sell something on the internet?

Is there another way you intend to monetize your website than ads?

What exactly do you hope to gain from it?

Find the answers to these questions, and remember to keep your eyes on the prise no matter what you do.

Look for references.
It is really beneficial to look at existing instances of what has already been done. Not only will it aid in the development of your idea, but you will also know what to avoid employing in order to prevent repeating the mistakes of others. If there are some stunning-looking websites from other types of businesses, you can use those as inspiration as well. You are not limited to searching for references in your field: if there are some stunning-looking websites from other types of businesses, you can use those as inspiration as well.

Look for good examples of what you want to aspire to and emulate them. You should, however, discern between what is ideal and what is reasonable. If you’re referring to Apple, Adidas, or any other major participant in the market, keep in mind that their website almost certainly receives significantly more money.

Speaking of which, you should also consider how much money you can afford to put into your website’s development. You should consider that time is your most significant asset, not just money. It is completely understandable if you are unable to work on it for a period of time exceeding a particular threshold.

What CMS Platform should you build on…it depends

Now that you are ready to start, choose the building tool. Among the most well-known are WordPress and Wix. I’ll make this easy, WIX is hot garbage if you make some money you will out grow it in a heart beat.  The fact that WordPress is quite popular means that you will be able to rapidly find solutions to any problems or questions that may arise, and you will always be able to get our assistance with your site. Please let us know if you are experiencing any difficulties with your WordPress site and we will gladly assist you.

If you are building an ecommerce website, Woocommerce (wordpress) and Magento are great open source options.  A quick config option is shopify, but you’ll need to rely on paid adverts, flowed by bigcommerce and the big daddy magento enterprise.

3. Website hosting

Essentially, a hosting provider is a corporation that provides you with a server on which you can host your website. It serves as a physical location where your website can be found.

If you decide on WordPress, you can use their hosting service (in this case, you’ll want to check for the domain name However, they also provide the option of self-hosting*, which means that you can choose whether to host your site yourself or through a third-party company of your choosing.

* We understand and respect your decision to become self-hosted, but we believe it is a questionable decision if you intend to grow and expand in terms of traffic, service, and so on and so forth. You have complete control over what is happening, but you also have a significant amount of responsibility for managing and fixing any server-side issues that arise.

Even while it may be tempting to go with a discount hosting plan (especially in the beginning when bandwidth and hardware capacity aren’t a concern), avoid going with the most inexpensive option that appears suspiciously low. Better hosting is only a few dollars more expensive, but it is absolutely priceless when viewed from the perspective of the customer. They provide superior service and assistance, you get less neck strain as a result of numerous breaks, lags, and other such annoyances – you genuinely get what you pay for with them.

4. Domain name

No need to over think it.

EMD – is an exact match for your service, such as the limitation is you can not trademark and brand it and if it includes a location you will be forever bound by that to the location. In terms of SEO their is a minor advantage.

Branded domains are a better option as you never know where you will be in 10yrs. You can trademark it and protect your brand. Think, google, amazon, facebook, dropbox, etc.  I personally think this is the better way to go and SEO is better, because you can rank for brand and for keywords and they will work synergistically.

Where you buy it doesn’t matter so much. I prefer to have my domain, website and dns held at different places. However, this can be a pain in the ass if you are not very techie as support can be limited. Obviously, store the logins, EPP securely and lock the domain.

5. Site branding

If you went the EMD routing for the domain name your stuck… it’s never going to look or be great…

Otherwise, pay to have a proper branding package it will serve you well for years,  Otherwise jump on fivver or legiit and get a cheap logo to get you going.
